Chris Day - Friday 13:00 to 15:00
A man who knows his 60’s music inside out, and has been broadcasting on internet radio for decades.
Rumour has it he actually owned an independent record shop when vinyl was vinyl, in those days
you could go in and listen to the records you fancied in a record booth. He shares with us his long
running and unique show, “Searching for the Perfect 60’s Single with Uncommon 45s”,
which he also broadcasts elsewhere.
Jim Richman - Thursday 19:00 to 21:00
Jim commenced his long radio career on the legendary Radio Caroline in the 60’s, and he
followed that with a residency at the world famous Marquee Club in London. He went on
the road after that working as a freelance DJ over many years. In addition to his show
on SunnySide Gold he hosts shows on 5 different stations including hospital radio.
Martin Leech - Monday 09:00 to 11:00
Martin started as a mobile DJ around the London Area at various venues in the 70’s and 80’s.
In the late 80s he did the warm up sessions for the live Radio Essex Soul Night Specials and
he ran a Hospital Radio station for a long period whilst also doing shows there. For the last
15 years he has worked on a variety of Internet Radio Stations doing regular weekly shows.
Martin & Wendy Leech - Sunday 17:00 to 19:00
Wendy has always loved music and some 12 years ago joined her husband Martin, helping him
behind the scenes on another Internet Radio Station. Then she progressed to co-presenting
the show with him some 9 years later which she still does today. She also supports him
with his Monday morning show, researching some of the features within the show.
Mike Andrews - Sunday 21:00 to 23:00
Mike’s radio career goes back to the pirate days of the 80’s. He enjoys playing genuinely
classic tracks as well as the best new music, and the music you like to hear.
His Sunday Evening shows are legendary and combine good music with an
interactive TV Quiz based mainly on the TV classics from years gone by.
Nigel James - Sunday 19:00 to 21:00
Nigel started his involvement with radio back in the 80’s and 90’s on various land-based
Pirate Radio Stations in and around the London Area. After the millennium, he moved
on to Internet Radio stations and has hosted shows on various stations since then.
His varied musical taste cuts across various decades but particularly the 70’s and 80’s.
In his spare time Nigel likes repairing anything electrical, sorting out radio technical
issues and feeding the ducks in his local park.
"Nutty Nora" - Thursday 09:00 to 11:00
Norah’s involvement in music stems back to the 60’s where she was involved in running the
Fan Club for Don Allen the Radio Caroline DJ. She was nicknamed “Nutty Norah” by Don
and it was at this stage she started to embark on her love of Country Music. Since then
she has been involved in running Country Music Discos in the 70’s and 80’s and currently
can be heard on three other Internet Radio Stations with her Country Music Show.
Peter Bakker - Tuesday 18:00 to 21:00
Peter Bakker - Wednesday and Friday 09:00 to 11:00
Peter broadcasts his shows from Kefalonia, off the coast of Greece, not only to a UK audience
but to followers in his native Holland and elsewhere in Europe. He began his radio career on
a Dutch Pirate Radio Station, followed by shows on legal Dutch stations. He also lived in
Germany for 6 years during where he produced shows for German Stations before
moving to various English based Internet Radio stations.
Rob Walker - Monday and Wednesday 19:00 to 21:00
Rob started as DJ when he was 18 and within a couple of years held a residency at a chain of
discotheques in North London, whilst continuing to work as a mobile DJ. He enjoys all genres
of music and has worked for the best part of the last 20 years on Internet Radio.
Theun van der Straat - Wednesday and Friday 11:00 to 12:00
Theun started as a DJ in 1980’s when he started playing music at a local Youth Centre in his
native Holland. He progressed to being a volunteer at a local Radio Station in Pekela and at
Stadskanaal in the Netherlands in the 1990’s. More recently he has produced shows for a
couple of UK based Internet Radio Stations, including his own Non-Stop Music Show.
Tony Johnson - Sunday 12:00 to 14:00
Tony started in the 1980’s broadcasting on a local Pirate Radio Station MAR in the North West
of England. Various other stations followed and then he joined ILR stations where he was to be
heard on the FM dial. His love of radio and music continues and his shows contain a blend of
music from back in the day with a sprinkling of tracks from the current day.
Wendy Leech - Wednesday 17:00 to 19:00
As well as supporting her husband Martin for many years behind the scenes, she progressed
to co-presenting the show with him some 9 years later which she still does today. She also
supports him with his Monday morning show with research on some of the features contained
within the show. Wendy now has her own show here on SunnySide Gold, featuring the tracks
she loves from across the years, especially classic hits with a Rock and Pop emphasis.
